A Family … a history …
Alfiero Niccolini was born in San Gimignano on 1 May 1936. The only son of Gino and Piera, he spent his childhood in San Gimignano, starting work as a mason at the age of 14 and later becoming a building contractor.
In 1961, he married Tina Marri, with whom he had three children: Giulia, Mario, and Elisa.
For many years, the Niccolini family owned a bar in the historic centre of San Gimignano, until Alfiero decided to pursue his lifelong dream. At the age of 60, he began the construction of Hotel Casolare Le Terre Rosse, near the Castelvecchio Nature Reserve.
The construction work lasted approximately two years, during which 42 rooms, a swimming pool, a restaurant, and a vast and magnificent park were created.
The hotel opened in March 1998. Mario, Giulia, and Elisa took charge of the management and organisation of the property, while Alfiero devoted himself to the care of the park.
Twenty-three years after its opening, Hotel Casolare Le Terre Rosse now features 55 rooms, four apartments, and a renowned restaurant.
Today is 1 May 2019, and I wanted to recount the history of the Niccolini family on the occasion of the 83rd birthday of Alfiero Niccolini, known to everyone as “The Boss.”
